GE Hotpoint Refrigerator Fail

In an earlier video, I think I mentioned that the refrigerator in the house ~ a GE Hotpoint ~ was made in Ohio (or Kentucky or some such), and it was not real old ~ perhaps eight or ten years.

We had one nearly identical to it in our cabin in Montrose. We liked it, and it worked just fine.

Given all that, I was fairly confident that this one would be okay.

Well, I was wrong.

One morning, we woke up to liquid ice (euphemism for cool water) in the ice cube trays in the freezer, and less-than-cold temps in the fridge.

I adjusted the dial to its coldest setting, and the machine promptly shut off.

So I fiddled with the dial, and at a point just short of “coldest” it turned on. The best temp we could get was just over 40°F in the refrigerator.

So we ordered a new Frigidaire from Lowe’s, and it was delivered two days later. There’s a story that goes along with that. Perhaps I’ll make a video to tell the tale.
